October on Burke Mountain: Community, Pumpkins and A Walk For a Cause ๐

October is one of the most magical months in the Lower Mainland — crunchy leaves, crisp air, and plenty of opportunities to make memories with your loved ones and your community. Whether you’re new to your neighbourhood or a long-time local, this month offers something for everyone: fun, connection, and a chance to give back.
๐ Our 12th Annual Great Burke Mountain Pumpkin Giveaway
We’re thrilled to be hosting our 12th Annual Great Burke Mountain Pumpkin Giveaway on Saturday, October 18th from 12–3 PM at Galloway Park! This free, family-friendly event has become a beloved tradition, and we can’t wait to see everyone again.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Free pumpkins to take home and carve
- Candy for the kids
- Face painters to add a little extra magic
- A costume photo contest with prizes for the most creative looks
Bring your friends, your neighbours, and your spookiest costumes — it’s a wonderful way to kick off the Halloween season while connecting with fellow Burke Mountain families.
๐ The Night Light Walk for Shelter
Later in the month, there’s a chance to support an incredible local cause. On Thursday, October 23, 2025, join us at Town Centre Park for the Night Light Walk for Shelter — a 3 km lantern-lit walk to raise funds and awareness for Tri-City Transitions, a local shelter supporting women and children affected by intimate partner violence.
The evening starts at 6:00 PM, with the walk beginning at 7:00 PM. You can participate by walking, fundraising, or making a donation through the event’s Race Roster page. It’s a meaningful way to come together as a community, show support, and help create brighter futures for families in need.
๐ก Other Ways to Celebrate Halloween Locally
Beyond our pumpkin giveaway, the Lower Mainland is full of seasonal activities like pumpkin patches, haunted walks, and family-friendly trick-or-treat events. These outings are a great way to support local businesses and soak up all the festive vibes.
โ Tips for a Safe & Welcoming Halloween
As Halloween night approaches, a few simple steps can make your home safer and more inviting for visiting ghosts and goblins:
- Clear walkways and add extra lighting for safety
- Offer allergy-friendly treats for kids with dietary restrictions
- Decorate with fun (but not too spooky!) touches to delight the little ones
